Employee Highlight: Paulette Layton
- Why did you decide to start working with Louisiana USA?
I had just graduated from SELU with a BA in psychology and was currently working part time with a big bank. I felt like I was at a crossroads because I had finally finished college, but to pursue a job in my degree field, I required more schooling. I was ready to get married and start a family. I had a friend that was working here (still does and has been for 15+ years…Allyson Cottrell), and she mentioned to me there was an opening so I decided to apply. Even though it was so long ago, I still remember my interview because I felt so comfortable and left thinking that I really wanted to work here.
- Why is Louisiana USA different than other places you have worked?
The culture and environment here is so different than any other place that I have ever worked. We are a family, sometimes dysfunctional, but we always rally for one another. The Credit Union genuinely cares for its employees, and I am sure that is why we have such a small turn over with new hires. Everyone that starts working here hardly ever leaves, or if they do leave, they usually ask to come back at some point. I have never been put in a situation where I felt like management didn’t have my back, and I have never felt pressured to do any task that I was not comfortable doing.
- How long have you worked in the financial industry?
14 years! I started my career in the financial industry in 2005 at a big bank working part time as a teller. It was unpleasant. The whole experience was not personable, and I found that it was all about making sales – the exact opposite of what Louisiana USA is about.
- What is something interesting/fun about you (not necessarily work related)?
I really love music. I mainly like alternative and country music (weird combo, I know), but I grew up listening to LOUD heavy metal thanks to my dad. I always have music playing at my house or at my desk at work, and I have a strong ability to remember lyrics and songs. I even remembered the LSU baseball players by their walk-up songs!
